Connected Agents Arrive: Microsoft 365 Copilot Gets Collaborative AI
Connected agents are coming to Microsoft 365 Copilot, first to the Researcher agent, and then to other agents you've created or added.
This is a feature that, for Researcher at least, has been on the list of shown but not arrived for a while. And recently, we've had multi-agent turn up in Copilot Studio, but it's still been absent from the main Microsoft 365 Copilot agent creation or management experience.
Why would you want an agent to use another agent? The same reason you might want people in your sales team to call on marketing when they have a specific branding question rather than muddling through on their own. Perhaps more so than in the human world, in the agentic world, a jack-of-all-trades is truly a master of none. Microsoft 365 Copilot agents are likely to try a little more and get by a little better with a little help from their friends.
If you haven't started experimenting with agents in your role or in your organization, then this is yet another reason to get started. The path Microsoft is on with this technology stack is becoming clearer every day, from what I think many, including those working on it, would admit was a little bit of a jumble to begin with. Now each small but effective agent we build to chip off a little bit of a more complex task can be re-used as a tool for other agents to achieve more.
This will be rolling out both to Public Preview and to General Availability this month (if anyone knows what on earth that means, please add a comment), preview is aiming to be rolled out by February and GA by May. [Update: the mix of GA and Preview was an error and has now been corrected]
