Want GPT-5 Day One? You Need a Microsoft 365 Copilot Subscription
f you want to get started with GPT-5 on the day of release, you better make sure you've got a Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription.
According to OpenAI, "GPT-5 is slowly rolling out to all users on ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Team, and Free plans worldwide". But in Microsoft 365 Copilot, it's there already. And so far, the results seem pretty good. In like-for-like comparisons of prompts focused on interpreting and analyzing Graph-based data, GPT-5 in Copilot went deeper, delivered more context, and developed more insights.
Under the hood of GPT-5 in Copilot is a model router concept working with the various GPT-5 model flavors to get your prompt to the right tier of model. This is smart, and in testing Microsoft's existing Model Router model that's been available in Azure AI Foundry, the routing seems to work pretty solidly to make sensible choices to get good results. This may well exceed the potential of a ChatGPT-like interface where users have to specifically select the right model for their use case.
So, if you've got Microsoft 365 Copilot (paid), check it out. And if you don't because you thought you'd always be ahead with your ChatGPT paid license. I'm sorry.
