Microsoft 365 Copilot Notebooks: Bringing Your Content Together for Smarter AI Reasoning
Copilots Notebooks is quietly becoming the place where your Microsoft 365 content gets assembled for AI reasoning. MC1474458, posted last week, adds Power BI reports as a reference source (public preview late September, GA targeted at late October, and no extra set-up if Power BI and Copilot are already live in your tenant).
This is a small add on its own but it's the latest addition to a long list of similar improvements over the last few months.
1️⃣ Outlook emails as a reference (MC1392569), up to 300 sources per notebook.
2️⃣ Markdown files as grounding (MC1423103), alongside plain text and rich text files too.
3️⃣ Teams meetings as references went GA over the summer.
4️⃣ JPG/PNG and CSV/TSV references are also on the roadmap (569211, 569210).
And improvements haven't just been around your existing M365 context. We've seen multimodal capture get added (audio, photos, and notes turned into an AI structured page) with MC1405506. For output, Notebooks now suggest Word, Excel, and PowerPoint artifacts (MC1420901).
There are some important caveats to keep in the back of your mind. First, since the addition of Notebooks for basic users earlier in the year, it's important to keep in view which updates are license gated. And second, to get the most from all this change requires a constant focus on feature adoption, including the need to navigate new UI and plan for another upcoming refresh with the redesigned Copilot app (MC1420901).
If you've not considered the value of Copilot Notebooks for a while, it's certainly worth spending some time to dig into these updates.
Where are you finding value in Notebooks? Which updates are you most excited about? And what features do you need that don't seem to be on the roadmap yet?
