Facilitator Agent for Microsoft 365 Copilot Reaches General Availability
The Facilitator Agent for Microsoft 365 Copilot is leaving preview and will be entering General Availability from later this month.
In my view, Facilitator is one of the triumphs of Microsoft 365 Copilot, showing how an agent can be weaved thoughtfully into the work being done by our teams to complement those efforts in a way that is helpful, easily accessible, and reduces the pressure on a work type most humans find fairly tedious.
If you've not used Facilitator, try it. It appears as an agentic user (or app) inside your meeting, interacts with you, and prepares notes that others can access and contribute to. A bunch of new features have been added since it was first brought to preview, and some of these will remain in preview a little longer.
There are still opportunities for improvement. The Loop integration can be a difficult choice if you collaborate a lot with external users, and sometimes the amount of lag time between a discussion and it appearing on the notes can lead you to wonder if Facilitator is taking some personal time. But overall, it's a very well thought out experience.
Agents like Researcher or Analyst demonstrate what working with focused agentic intelligence is like, but they still require us to guide each of their chat turns in a way that is unfamiliar in working with other humans. Facilitator offers much more the experience of a digital team member, where it has a job that it just gets on with, with a work product delivered for every meeting you invite it to.
In my mind, Facilitator offers us much more to learn about one potential AI future than most other agents we're exposed to day-to-day. Whenever I demo it in an adoption session even people already up to speed on AI chat are wowed.

Have you tried Facilitator? How important are features like this to the value you get from your Microsoft 365 Copilot license?
