Imagining the Future of Microsoft 365 Copilot UX with Claude

I asked "Imagine with Claude" to suggest what the Microsoft 365 Copilot interface in Word might look like in 5 years. It created a clickable app with different ideas for Copilot elements in just a few seconds.

This isn't useable software it's just an experiment to show what is possible. But if I want to use a similar approach to create something immediately useful today, I need look no further than generative pages in Power Apps, that can quickly create custom UI for model-driven apps that no low-code maker would be able to come close to.

The fact is that we are probably not that far away from entirely custom UX for everything we do. But I don't think that necessarily means the end of software, or apps, or developers; it just means the last few inches of the process - between your eyes and your screen - evolves into a completely new paradigm.

The underlying data and data model that drives every app experience becomes a lot more important in a world where the UI can change on a dime. It's no surprise that a tool like generative pages live within the concept of a model-driven app which is itself completely defined by its underlying data model.

Designing for complete flexibility of user experience from the ground up still feels like a challenge where humans will be in the driver's seat for the foreseeable future. It opens up some really exciting options and a complete step change in how technology adoption projects will be designed.

Are we ready? The possibilities created by AI are a learning curve for everyone.
