Microsoft Delivers on a Key Copilot Promise: Seamless Outlook Integration
One of the features that was an early promise from Microsoft 365 Copilot demos was a seamless integration from the chat experience back into the apps we use every day.
Now, that promise is being fulfilled for Outlook with a new integration that will allow Copilot Chat to detect you are asking it to write an email, and to allow you to open up a draft of that message in Outlook with the recipients, subject, and message already filled out.
This is very much what Copilot must be in order to be successful. Microsoft's goal shouldn't be to beat ChatGPT at being ChatGPT, but to build AI tooling that rests atop of applications hundreds of millions of users are familiar with and business data stewarded for millions of organizations. It's taken a while, but that initial image of the product first shown off in 2023 has quickly been reaching its final form in the last few months.
As this picture develops, those apps we have been stuck in for the last few decades may become task-based tools we jump into with specific purpose but with our full day of work orchestrated from Copilot and with agents that are specialists in different aspects of our work. That orchestration layer becomes are amplifier for what we are seeking to achieve, and a filter for the noise that stands in our way on that path.
This new feature will be rolling out later this month and into next month for Microsoft 365 Copilot licensed users. See MC1173196 for more information.
