New Copilot Branding Feature: Helpful Signal or Hidden Risk?
You'll soon be able to add a company logo to your users' Microsoft 365 Copilot app to show that Copilot is "Approved by" your organization as an AI tool for business use.
Opportunities like this to bring your brand to the Microsoft 365 tools your teams are using go beyond just a visual alignment. The various capabilities in Microsoft 365 for reconfiguring and customizing the visual cues in your environment, particularly within login screens, remain an important aid to your teams not falling for the most basic security threats.
But in Copilot does this opportunity push the other way? It is the tool that is "Approved by" your organization, rather than the answers it generates. And it's important that a visual cue confirming this is the tool you want your teams to use doesn't become an unintended flattening of Responsible AI (RAI) processes you have put in place to ensure AI missteps don't make their way into finished work.
My take on this feature: There are good reasons to enable this, which entirely align with many of the reasons such customizations have existed before. But it's really important that users understand what is approved, and what expectations exist around use. If you've rolled out AI without effort on ongoing adoption, then you are leaving yourself open to risk.
