OpenAI Introduces ChatGPT Pulse: The Next Step Toward Proactive AI

OpenAI has announced ChatGPT Pulse, a new paradigm for using their service where ChatGPT will proactively update you on topics or interests based on its memory or other contextual clues.

This feels like a really logical next step for how we work with AI. How can we turn that memory and ongoing contextual awareness from something that is beneficial reactively to something that helps us in more purposeful and proactive ways?

However, this cannot be without risk. As humans we don't know what we don't know, and if AI services like ChatGPT just become an echo chamber that forces us down an ever more constricted funnel of only surfacing those things that interest us, then it's just another face of some of the most harmful impacts we see of social media.

One of the most important skills that experienced executive assistants bring to their relationships with those they help is updating in a temporally relevant way. Executives don't just need to know the same things, slightly updated each time, on repeat; they also need to know things that are wildly outside of what they are normally dealing with on the timeline that makes them relevant. Whereas we might see technology solutions on interest relevance as a funnel, EAs manage an audition process, where they might hold back topics until they find the right fit. The challenge is getting the technology to match these human insights.

A Microsoft 365 Copilot Pulse would be of great interest to me. It would, however, need to show off a very sophisticated grasp of organizational and temporal context to be more valuable than what we already have. Is Copilot, or any AI, up to this job? In my opinion, this is the next big leap in capability many of us are waiting for.

Do you find the idea of ChatGPT Pulse appealing? Would you like to see a Microsoft 365 Copilot Pulse arrive soon?
