Standout with Presenter Modes in Microsoft Teams

One of the big ways the default experience of sharing a presentation in an online meeting in Microsoft Teams differs from how you might traditionally experience it in person, is that the person who is speaking seems to almost disappear for the audience. We are used to seeing a presenter in front of us with the presentation beside them, and we can gain value from not only the content on the slides, but also the facial expression, body language, and gestures of the presenter.

If you experience this limitation, and haven't yet tried out presenter modes in Teams, then there is a solution waiting for you with three presentation modes to allow the person sharing content to be featured alongside it.

Standout mode puts the presenter in front of and in the bottom right corner of their content, side-by-side frames the presenter alongside their content, and reporter mode makes the content look like a graphic on a newscast with the presenter shown like a news anchor.

These options are available from the desktop Teams client and can be selected on the Share Content dialog.

Options such as these can be important to make the virtual experience feel more authentic, and may be of particular value in hybrid scenarios with a remote presenter sharing content with a group who are at a meeting in-person. There are lots of elements to making our hybrid work environments comfortable for all our team members and surfacing options such as these in the tools we are already using can be an important component.
