OneNote Copilot Moves to Chat: What This Update Means for Your Workflow
If you're a user of Microsoft 365 Copilot in OneNote, you're probably going to want to know about this upcoming change.
In a move for consistency across apps, some of the contextual and inline capabilities of Copilot in OneNote such as page summaries, which up until now have just appeared on the page, are moving to the Copilot Chat pane within the app.
According to MC1185440 in the message center, capabilities such as Take Notes with Copilot, Summarize Page, Create a Task List, and Rewrite Page, will now all move to acting on the Copilot Chat pane and users will be able to continue their chat with Copilot from there.
For those who have integrated OneNote's currently Copilot capabilities into their notetaking workflow, this change may require a rethink, or at least a couple more clicks, to achieve exactly the same output. In addition to this location change, the update will also remove the ability to reference "this section" or "this notebook" in prompts.
This update applies to OneNote for Windows Desktop and will start to arrive on December 12th.
