Copilot Studio Lite Agents Can Now Graduate to Full Studio
Since the very first days of Copilot Studio Agent Builder, Microsoft has been teasing us that there could, one day, be a mechanism to seamlessly move from what is now the "Lite" experience through to the more powerful full Copilot Studio.
But the teasing is over. MC1176363 in Message Center has outlined that by mid-November we will have the capability to copy agents created in Copilot Studio Lite and use them in Copilot Studio Full.
This is a big deal for anyone who has built an agent in that Lite (formerly Agent Builder) experience and hit a roadblock because of access to actions and tools, data sources, ALM, or access control, and found they can only do what they need in Copilot Studio Full.
It's not going to be as simple as that button Agent Builder had back at the end of 2024. You will copy your agent, and the original version will keep running rather than "promoting" your agent into the full experience, which is the capability I think makes most sense. It's also a little confusing that instead of remaining a declarative agent editable in the Full experience, these will be converted to being custom agents, with a vastly different approach to orchestration and data access.
Overall, it's great though that we are seeing this arrive. There is a lot of demand for what that original button seemed to promise, and I look forward to giving it a go.
