Fingerprinting AI - How can we track the output of AI tools like ChatGPT?

How can we know when the information we're consuming was generated by AI? One possible solution is to mark the content generated by AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, or Microsoft 365 Copilot as such - but how? Our current solutions to this type of problem, like metadata or signing don't really work as AI work product can so easily be mixed in with other materials. How about using a new alphabet for AI tools? Would that work?
