Microsoft Copilot vs. Microsoft 365 Copilot: Are Your Users Using the Right One?

Are you using the right Copilot?

Microsoft is adding a Copilot setting to automatically pin the Microsoft 365 Copilot app to the taskbar in Windows. For both Windows 10 and Windows 11 users, you will be able to ensure they have Microsoft 365 Copilot pinned. This will be rolling out at the end of July.

This may feel like a minor concern, but getting the right Copilot in front of users is important, as there are lots of places Microsoft Copilot (the consumer one) can creep in, including through its included Windows app.

And while Microsoft Copilot is a great app and actually has a bunch of features we don't have in Microsoft 365 Copilot, the way it interacts with data and the lack of business-focused compliance controls mean that business use should always be pushed toward Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat or a full Microsoft 365 Copilot licensed experience.

So, help your users by pinning the right app for them and make sure there's an understanding of the added benefit that little "M365" on the icon actually gives when using the product.

Does Copilot confusion impact your use or the use of colleagues? Is the distinction between Microsoft Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot clear enough, or does Microsoft's branding propagate misunderstanding?
