Work from home ergonomics

For those for whom working from home or hybrid work is now moving from a pandemic response to a new normal, consideration of how to set-up correctly for the long-term to be productive and healthy while working away from the office is important. A lapped laptop on a couch or dining room table is a perfectly adequate stopgap but having a properly set-up workstation that pays attention to the right ergonomic considerations with pay dividends in the long term.

OSHA publishes an online checklist to help with setting up your workstation correctly, but other agencies around the world provide resources for this purpose that at first glance are perhaps far more easily understandable. This checklist from the UK's Health and Safety Executive is just one example.

From the position of your keyboard, to the height of your monitor, to how many breaks you take, considering your use of your workstation is extremely important. For managers or business owners this is also an important safety consideration and should be something you give thought to if for no other reason than workers dealing with injuries due to poorly configured workstations are not productive (there are lots of better reasons to have this issue front of mind!)
